Agroforestry (Agriculture+ Forestry)

The concept of AgroForestry may sound to be a new system for many but it is relatively old and practiced by many farmers and farming communities. Increasingly farms having trees and crops (like wheat, paddy, maize, sugarcane, fodder crops etc.) can be seen now-a-days which is what is referred to as Agroforestry. It basically helps in producing food, fuel, fodder and timber. This integration of agriculture and forestry provides both economic and environmental benefits like

o Conservation and enrichment of humus/topsoil

o Maintenance and enrichment of soil fertility

    o Controlling soil erosion

o Protection of crop and livestock

o Increasing productivity and sustainability of production especially from marginal agricultural land

o Diversification of products and protection against the risk associated with volatile commodity markets poor yields and uncertainty of monsoons

o Boosts growth of allied businesses like Honey, Lac, Silk etc.

o Providing food for enhancing animal and bird habitation

    o Management of water quality

    o Raising water table

    o Harvesting of rain water

    o Management of waste and

o Sequestration and storage of carbon.

GLAFHS can undertake surveys analyse present practices suggest and assist farmers & their communities planning to embrace Agro- forestry. We assist in planning and establishing systems like Agri- silviculture, Silvi- pastoral system, Agri – silvi- pastoral, Multipurpose forestry depending on the requirement, geographical location and feasibility.

Farm Forestry and Waste Land Development

The popularity of farm forestry i.e., bringing in trees into farms for the purpose of producing wood and/or non-wood products is steadily increasing as it gives good returns to farmers and land owners.

Development of wastelands through forestry systems is being increasingly adopted by growing suitable tree species of economic value on poor and degraded soils.

GLAFHS has the expertise to select and establish commercial block plantation of trees like eucalyptus, teak, poplar, Neem, Casuarina, Bamboo, Kadam, Jatropha, Pongamia, Acacia, Subabul, Mahogany etc.

Drawing upon our experience and contacts within the forestry sector, we manage forestry operations including Project Management & Maintenance, Techno-economic Consultancy, Raw Material Arrangement, obtaining high quality timber, cost-effective harvesting techniques, timber sales, and identifying new opportunities & maximise returns.
